The City of Slidell’s administrative functions were spread out over several one-story ground level buildings. Slidell’s strategic approach in rebuilding its administrative buildings was to:
1) Centralize the administrative functions into one large modern Administrative Complex
2) Rebuild elevated buildings above the Base Flood Elevation utilizing available Hazard Mitigation funding available under the Public Assistance Program to ensure the continuity of city services post disaster.
Before being able to accomplish its recovery goals, Slidell needed to secure a Project Worksheet that will fund the building replacements. Utilizing Floodplain Regulations, Executive Orders and Hazard Mitigation requirements, Slidell was able to prevail and obtain FEMA’s approval for funding its Administrative Buildings replacement.
In addition, Slidell’s City Administration Building Project Worksheet also utilized Public Assistance “Improved Project” and “Alternate Project” Program provisions allowing several Project Worksheets to be aggregated together.
Today, the Administrative Building Complex is a shining example of the benefits of the Public Assistance Program, already proving resilient to subsequent flooding that resulted in no structural damages.
