Canal Debris Cleaning

Post disaster debris cleanup operations in canals and navigable waters are normally a source of jurisdictional responsibility determination. At times, multijurisdictional responsibility can lead to disputes on funding sources and oversight.

In the Canal Debris Removal in Slidell, with a position paper to the NRCS Slidell was able to overcome an initial denial of cleanup funding by the NRCS and at the same time also resolved the funding dispute with FEMA.

Once all NRCS responsibilities and funding settled, FEMA funding was a secured for the debris cleanup costs not covered by the NRCS.
