Slidell Senior Center

SLIDELL, LA

This photo shows some of Slidell’s Seniors enjoying Slidell’s new Senior Center Building. To obtain a replacement building, Slidell needed to contend with multitude of obstacles.

Like Slidell’s Auditorium and other Administrative Building cases, the replacement and elevation of Slidell’s Senior Center was achieved only after FEMA’s final acceptance of the eligibility of NFIP cost compliance.

In the Senior Center case, Slidell was also required to provide a feasibility study showing that both the cost of a floodwall construction and the cost to repair the building totaled more than the cost of constructing a new building. Only after substantiating that the building repairs required a complete replacement of the steel roof panels, was it concluded that the building replacement is the most feasible option, and a replacement Project Worksheet was granted by FEMA. (Keeping in mind the preceding key battle to force FEMA to comply with the NFIP requirements was the foundation to reaching the favorable feasibility study that required the building replacement)
