Belowground Steel Can Sewer Lift Station Replacement

Significant damages to New Orleans Collection Network and sewerage lift stations resulted in the replacement and mitigation projects for many damagesd lift stations.

One of the top priorities of the S&WB was to replace and mitigate all their belowground “steel cans” lift stations. The creative strategic approach to obtaining all the necessary the funding required for complete replacement and elevation to an above ground station included utilizing Section 404 Hazard Mitigation funds, Section 406 Hazard Mitigation funds, and together with the Public Assistance repair and replacement funding.

Aggregating all the funding together under the “Improved Project” provisions resulted in the elevation of all the old “belowground steel can” lift stations and replacement with modern and protected above ground stations.
