Leaners & Hangers

Slidell, LA

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina’s devastations, the City of Slidell contracted under Emergency Measure provisions for the removal of Leaners & Hangers from City ROW trees.

At the completion of the work and after initial dispute on eligibility, FEMA wrote a Project Worksheet to fund Slidell’s emergency contract to remove the leaners & Hangers.

Unfortunately, due to FEMA’s initial verification done without the appropriate guidance and oversite of the applicant, FEMA encountered predictable difficulties verifying the work without the applicant assistance and was able to validate only fraction of the work.

After working with FEMA and the State of Louisiana to further substantiate additional costs, it was agreed that a joint team consisting of City, State, and FEMA representatives will resurvey and inspect all work in the City of Slidell.

Together, FEMA, the State of Louisiana, and the City of Slidell audited 75% of the project and documented approximately $5 million dollars of work that was funded with a new PW version.
